Trenching

A little project mike has been working on. He dug a 400' trench from the water line at the pole barn to the road so we can run stock tanks and power and move all of the market pigs down to that section of the lower ranch. That will give them a lot more room and the upper ranch a lot fresher air! #diy #ranching

Rescue

Found this big ol gopher snake all wrapped up in some garden mesh this afternoon. Took some time with a scissors to get him lose and then he flipped his tail up on the electric fence and gave us both a heck of a jolt. When it was all said and done we sent him down a gopher hole in the orchard and think he'll be just fine. #californiagophersnake #ranchlife

Chute

We built a new chute so we can weigh and worm the pigs and sheep more easily. It works great! #themotherofinvention #diy

Eggs!

Anyone need eggs? Our girls are in overdrive! We refrigerate but don't wash our eggs until they are delivered. This keeps the shell's natural protective layer intact and keeps the eggs fresh (and keeps them from growing into chicks). #freerangechickens

Timber

Finally figured out why the electric fence wasn't working. Another 100 year old oak bites the dust. We need to revisit that woodchipper discussion. #itsalwayssomething #ranchlife

Frog

It's already turning brown around here and this fat little frog has staked his claim on the lower ranch water shutoff valve. #wildlife #beatingthedrought
