It's been a hard first few days for our first time mom Zsa Zsa's piglets. The runt we rescued and tried to bottle feed didn't make it through the second night, two were squashed the first day, another that night, and another today. Plus we saved at least two more that were getting sat on by running to their squeals and pulling the sow's big behind off them. We are now down to 5 of the original 10 but each one gets 2 nipples and hopefully they are getting mobile enough to get out of her way. We have a creep area for their safety but they just keep getting under her and she's completely oblivious.

Bored collie

This is the 3rd chicken jinx has brought to me since I've been sitting on the deck. #boredercollie #workingdogsjustwork

Lookie what just popped out of Zsa Zsa! 10 new mouths to feed. Zsa Zsa is full Mangalitsa but split 3/4 blonde and 1/4 swallow belly (the two main color phases here in the states) for added genetic diversity so we expected a couple of black ones and that's just what we got. 6 girls and 4 boys. 2 blacks. #mangalitsa #oldworldpigs #gourmetpork

Ear tags

Catching and tagging piglets this afternoon was an experience our interns may never forget. #mangalitsa #gourmetpork

Mud wrestling

Cotty the Great Pyrenees... but not so great at mud wrestling with an Anatolian. #goingbrunette #raisingaruckus

Week old orphans

Graham and Marshmallow made it through their first week and are getting stronger. Pixie's little girl, Junebug, is even impressed. #bottlebabies #nigeriandwarf

Everyone chips in. Nella is doing her part to help raise our little orphans too. She is about 70X bigger than them. Amazing how these big dogs can be so nasty in the face of a threat and so kind to family; and even more amazing that even the smallest babies have no fear of them. #Anatolianshepherds #nigeriandwarf #kiddingseason

Chicken tunnel

Our intern, Tiffany, made this nice chicken tunnel so our free-ranging hens can bypass her new melon patch. #freerangechickens #freshfruit #growyourown

7pm feeding with S'more's three little orphans, Graham, Marshmallow and Cocoa.

Sad Sunday

Sad Sunday. Our sweet little S'mores has had a hard time recovering from her kidding two days ago. This morning she became very ill, quickly faded and we lost her. The vet said it was probably late pregnancy ketosis and the toll of having triplets on her first freshening two days ago. She never really developed much milk so we had been supplementing with Frankie but now it looks like we will be on a strict bottle schedule for the next 8 weeks. This is definitely the worst part of running a farm. She was one of the friendliest does we had and we will miss her enormously. #nigeriandwarf #bottlebabies

Mrs. Livingston finally caught her first mouse and has been up playing with it since about 3am. Yeah! #mouser #rescuecat

Betsy Ross gave birth to a doeling and a buckling. This is her little boy and we will be selling him as an intact buckling. He is 5th generation with great coloring, and is growing fast. His dam is 4th generation and his sire is purebred. He would be a perfect addition to any breeding program.

Last year's grafting project has given us two kinds of fruit on this tree, Dapple Dandy pluots and Santa Rosa plums. #backyardorchard #freshfruit

Just when you say to yourself "what are we going to do with all these boys?" some nice folks come to visit and reserve 7 wethers for weeding their big ranch, including these 3! #nigeriandwarf #brushbusters
