The new breeder aviary is complete and stocked. Hens are able to store sperm so we need to keep our breeders away from the other roosters for 3 weeks to make sure our eggs are fertilized by the right guy. Then, we can start collecting the eggs to incubate and hatch. Here Coppy our black copper maran rooster fends off Lester the jersey giant via an intimidating display. We have black copper, olive egger and easter egger hens in with him so we hope to hatch chicks that will offer up dark chocolate, dark olive and regular olive colored eggs from this bunch. #farmgenetics #ranchlife #backyardchickens
